World Cup 2023: Here's the breakdown of $10 million mega event's prize money pool

LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC)  announced a whopping $10 million prize  pool on Friday, with the winning team taking home an unprecedented $4 million.


 According to the ICC website, the finalist will win a prize worth $2 million. The 10 teams competing in  round-robin competition in the group stage will receive $40,000 for each victory.


 Meanwhile, the losing team in the semi-finals will receive $800,000.


 In addition, the six teams eliminated after the climax of the group stage will receive $100,000. Eight teams - New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, South Africa and India - have directly qualified for the mega event.


While the Netherlands and Sri Lanka qualified for the World Cup after securing qualifying spots.


 The ICC World Cup 2023 will be held in India with 10 teams competing for the elusive title across 10 venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the opening match of the tournament  and the final.



 The round-robin format will feature a total of 45 matches. Additionally, each team will play two warm-up matches before starting the big event.  The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals, to be held in Mumbai on November 15 and  Kolkata on November 16. The semi-finals and finals will have reserve days.


 Pakistan's 15-member squad participates in the 2023 World Cup 

Earlier today, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq announced the  15-member Blue Shirt team for the mega event.


 Speaking at a press conference at  Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the former cricket legend revealed that Hassan Ali will replace the injured Naseem Shah in the 2023 Asian Cup.


 Regarding Haris Rauf's injury concerns, the head coach said:

“I have received encouraging reports from our medical board regarding Haris Rauf. He  started bowling at the National Cricket Academy and will be available for selection.


 “I truly believe that this team can bring the World Cup trophy to Pakistan and make the whole country proud with their incredible performance. It's time to support our team and give them  the support and assistance they need.
