Rizwan takes charge as Pakistan eye ODI series win in West Indies

Trinidad, 7 August 2025 – Cricket fans are in for an exciting clash as Mohammad Rizwan-led Pakistan gear up to face West Indies in a three-match ODI series starting Friday, 8 August 2025, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago. The second and third ODIs will also be played at the same venue.

This historic ground will be hosting only its second men’s ODI since West Indies played India here in 2023. The first ODI will be a day-night fixture, starting at 2:00 PM local time (11:00 PM Pakistan time), while the remaining two matches will be day games, beginning at 9:30 AM local time (6:30 AM Pakistan time).

Pakistan vs West Indies Head-to-Head in ODIs

In the 137 ODIs played between the two sides, Pakistan have won 63 matches, while West Indies have claimed 71 victories. Three matches ended in ties (1991, 1993, and 2013).

The rivalry dates back to the 1975 Cricket World Cup, and since then, Pakistan have won 11 bilateral ODI series, while West Indies have taken six. The last time West Indies won an ODI series against Pakistan was in November 1991.

Pakistan’s Road to the ODI Series

The Green Shirts arrived in Trinidad on 5 August after clinching the T20I series 2-1 against West Indies in Lauderhill, Florida. They have already completed two training sessions in preparation for the ODIs.

The 15-man squad includes uncapped batter Hassan Nawaz, while Fakhar Zaman misses out due to a left hamstring strain sustained during the second T20I.

Mohammad Rizwan, who has captained Pakistan in 17 ODIs, joined the squad in Florida along with Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam, and Naseem Shah before flying to Trinidad. On the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings, Pakistan are 4th, while West Indies are 10th.

Pakistan Captain Mohammad Rizwan’s Statement

> “We are eager to put our best foot forward in the ODI format. This away series in tough Caribbean conditions will be a great challenge for our young squad. Players like Sufyan Moqim and Hassan Nawaz are ready to prove themselves in 50-over cricket. Facing West Indies in their backyard is never easy, but we’ll aim to express ourselves with both bat and ball to win the series,” Rizwan said.
