Muhammad Asif Dominates Opening Match at World Games 2025 Snooker Event

Chengdu, China – August 10, 2025: Pakistan’s legendary cueist Muhammad Asif made an impressive start to his World Games 2025 snooker campaign, defeating China’s Xiaolong Liang in straight frames during his Group B opener on Sunday.

The former IBSF World Champion showed his class and composure in the best-of-three encounter, claiming the first frame 79-50 before sealing the match with a commanding 77-24 victory in the second.

With this win, Asif moves closer to the quarter-final stage and will face Germany’s Alexander Widau in his next group match on Monday.

The men’s snooker event at the World Games 2025 features 12 top amateur players from around the globe, divided into four groups of three. The top two from each group will advance to the knockout rounds.

Asif secured his spot in Chengdu by winning the 2024 IBSF World Men’s Snooker Championship in Doha, where he edged Iran’s Ali Gharahgozlou 4-3 in a thrilling final. Just last month, he added the IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship 2025 title in Bahrain, defeating India’s Brijesh Damani 4-3.

His stellar form and recent titles have made him one of the top contenders for gold in Chengdu, as Pakistan pins its hopes on the 36-year-old cueist to bring home another international trophy.
