World Cup 2023: Pakistan smashes record with victory over Sri Lanka | Bat N Ball 

The Pakistan cricket team on Tuesday entered the record books as they chased the highest total in World Cup history in their match against Sri Lanka at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Hyderabad.


 The Men in Green reached their mammoth  target  of 345 runs thanks to glorious centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique, who build the innings after Sri Lanka struck early, dismissing captain Babar Azam and opener Imam -ul-Haq at the pavilion right very early from the start of the match.


 The  chase - beating Ireland's previous highest record of 329 runs  against England - was the highest in World Cup history in the last 12 editions of World Cup ODI  chases by just over 300 runs  achieved  a small number of times.


 In the 2011 World Cup, England failed miserably in the draw with India in the 2011 World Cup when they scored 338/8 in the second innings.

Earlier in the day, an incredible batting performance by Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama helped Sri Lanka post a  total of 344 runs, the highest ever total against Pakistan in a World Cup match. Cup, surpassing India, the team that scored 336 goals in the 2019 World Cup. , England.

 Mendis scored a total of 122 runs off just 77 deliveries, at an impressive strike rate of 158.44, as his knock covered 14  sixes.

 Meanwhile, Samarawickrama continued his momentum and completed his century, scoring 108 runs in 89 balls with 13 boundaries.

 The Men in Blue suffered an early blow as they  lost to top batsmen, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam, in just 7.1 overs and the scoreline was 37-2, but the relationship The winning partnership between Rizwan and  World Cup debutant Shafique changed the fortunes of the struggling Pakistan side.

 The gap of 176 runs between the two batsmen gave their teams the much-needed rest and put them in a dominant position once again.  Shafique returned to the pavilion after scoring 113 off 103 thanks to 10 fours and 3 sixes, but Rizwan remained till the end and crossed the finish line with 131 runs - the second highest individual score in the green jersey of the World Cup , surpassing Ramiz. Raja scored 119 against New Zealand in 1992.

 The impressive win is a huge confidence booster for the Pakistan team as they face arch-rivals India in the most awaited match of the World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 14.
