James Anderson left out of England’s Playing XI for third Ashes Test | Bat N Ball

England's veteran fast bowler, James Anderson, has been omitted from the Playing XI for the upcoming third Ashes Test, set to commence on July 6 at Headingly.

Facing a daunting 0-2 deficit in the ongoing Ashes series, the host nation, England, announced their Playing XI for the crucial third Test, implementing three changes.

Notably, the experienced James Anderson has been excluded from the Playing XI, making way for the formidable pace of Mark Wood.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released a statement on Wednesday, revealing that both Anderson and fellow paceman Josh Tongue have been granted a rest for 3rd test. In their absence, the express pace of Wood and the all-round abilities of fast-bowler Chris Woakes have been entrusted.

Moeen Ali, who emerged from Test retirement for the Ashes, has returned to England's Playing XI for the third Test. He missed the Lord's Test due to a blister on his right index finger.

The team's new perspective-provider, off-spinner Ollie Pope, fills in for England's vice-captain who will miss the final Ashes series due to a dislocated shoulder. Pope is an off-spinner.

Additionally, there has been a promotion in the batting order for Harry Brook, who now assumes the position previously held by Pope at No. 3.

In order to overcome their 2-0 disadvantage and win the series, England must draw motivation from an 86-year-old record set by Don Bradman's Australian squad. Ben Stokes, the captain of England, is driven to produce an astounding comeback in the Ashes.

Conversely, should Australia secure victory at Headingley, Pat Cummins will etch his name in history as the first Australian captain to win an away Ashes series after a lengthy 22-year hiatus.

England's Playing XI for the third Test comprises the following players:

Ben Duckett

Zak Crawley

Harry Brook

Joe Root

Jonny Bairstow (wkt)

Ben Stokes (c)

Moeen Ali

Chris Woakes

Mark Wood

Ollie Robinson

Stuart Broad
